Slope and intercept

An interactive lesson with 8 steps, about 7 minutes: you predict, drag and solve, with instant feedback on every answer. It runs in your browser and needs JavaScript.

What you’ll learn

  • y=mx+by = mx + b: slope mm (change in yy per unit of xx) and intercept bb (the value at x=0x = 0).
  • Slope from two points: m=y2−y1x2−x1m = \dfrac{y_2 - y_1}{x_2 - x_1}.
  • Parallel lines have equal slopes. Steepness is the size of the slope.
